The Electra 9200 is the latest evolution of Harmonic’s market-leading compression platform, offering superior video quality while adding the ability for operators to deliver numerous combinations of broadcast and multiscreen services as their needs evolve. The new platform extends the broad and proven multi- function capabilities of the Electra 8000, with more comprehensive GbE networking, flexible internal video routing, and enhanced serviceability with removable power supply, fan assembly and processing cards.
The high performance Electra 9200 improves bandwidth efficiency and channel density by providing up to
four audio/video input processing modules that can support either:
- Main and secondary SD or HD channels of constant bit-rate (CBR) or variable bit-rate (VBR) video using either MPEG-2 or AVC encoding
- Up to 8 multiscreen IDR aligned profiles using AVC encoding
The chassis can support combinations of:
- Up to 8 broadcast services per chassis
- Up to 32 multiscreen IDR aligned profiles per chassis

Flexible solution for cable – The Electra 9200 enables cable operators to enhance the subscriber experience. It incorporates Harmonic’s proven technology to support legacy CBR and VBR applications (in both HD and SD MPEG-2 formats) and offers support for new IPTV over cable applications with the options for multiscreen formats.
4:1 HD MPEG-2 for cable – The Electra 9200 can encode up to four statistically multiplexed HD MPEG-2 services within a single chassis, all from HD-SDI, IP or ASI inputs. This gives cable operators a high-density, high-value solution that also delivers exceptional video compression performance.
Compression performance – Engineered with a unique multi-pass encoding architecture using market-leading ASIC and programmable DSP/FPGA technologies, for leading video quality. This silicon architecture has been extended to provide high quality de-interlacing and compression for delivery of progressive multiscreen profiles.
Integrated multiscreen output – The Electra 9200 can simultaneously deliver multiple multiscreen profiles all the way up to full HD resolutions alongside the traditional SD and HD broadcast outputs. Multiscreen baseline, main and high profile modes are supported. Up to 8 multiscreen profiles per audio/video processing module are supported depending on profile resolutions & frame rates.
Integrated high quality second resolution output – Multiple resolutions can be delivered from the same video input, from low resolution delivery for small picture formats to full broadcast HD. The secondary channel offers support for a myriad of hybrid broadcast applications.
Configurability – The internal video cross-point router allows video to be routed at will from any input to any audio video processing module.
Leveraging the rich Electra feature set – Available functionality includes: IP or ASI outputs, support for multiple audio processing adapters and FLEX integrated multi-format decoder with IP, ASI or 8-VSB inputs.
Integrated statistical multiplexing – The Electra 9200 streamlines system architectures and reduces the hardware footprint with DiviTrackMX, the widely deployed integrated statmux solution.
Using IP networks for statistical multiplexing – Using cost-effective IP infrastructure, the Electra 9200 maximizes the efficiency and flexibility of statistical multiplexing with DiviTrackIP. Applicable for either LAN or
distributed WAN environments, the system can support up to 300ms of WAN round trip delay, auto-adjust to the IP network variations and form systems with up to 64 channels per pool.
Built-in broadcast quality up/down-converter – The Electra 9200 makes the launch of differentiated services, such as an all-HD broadcast of the SD lineup, simple and cost effective.
Pre-processing – The Electra 9200 offers advanced integrated noise reduction capabilities, including Harmonic’s signature Motion Compensated Temporal Filtering (MCTF). It also includes an adaptive deblocking and mosquito noise reduction filter designed to attenuate compression artifacts that may be present in the video source. A sharpening filter can also enhance the appearance of incoming material. These same technical foundations are also used to support powerful de-interlacing to cleanly deliver progressive formats.
Designed for complex audio requirements – With „on-board” audio processing, each Electra 9200 video compression card can natively encode up to 3 stereo pairs (or a single multi-channel encode). In addition, the platform is designed to solve a multitude of application requirements. The optional audio adapters extend functionality and density to address a variety of audio processing scenarios. This includes transcoding from Dolby E sources or transcoding from Dolby Digital to Dolby Digital Plus.
